When we are talking multi-directional sports (Field Sports, Court Sports), one of the most important properties of speed and quickness, is the ability to slow down. That’s right: “Slow Down!” We don’t mean run or perform slower, what we mean is the ability to “Decelerate.”
In order to change direction, which is what multi-directional sports are all about, you must be able to completely stop your body before you go in a different direction. I didn’t make these rules, Physics does!
One other major benefit of practicing the ability to decelerate is the injury prevention component. We see a rash of ACL injuries and other non-contact injuries that we have the ability to reduce the risk if we train properly.
